From east to west, you'll encounter the Atlantic Time Zone, Eastern Time Zone, Central Time Zone, Mountain Time Zone, Pacific Time Zone, Alaska Time Zone, Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone, Samoa Time Zone, and the Chamorro Time Zone. Each zone keeps track of time slightly differently, ensuring everyone gets their sunrise and sunset at the appropriate hours.
In addition to the time zones, the US also observes Daylight Saving Time (DST) in most areas. On the second Sunday of March, clocks spring forward an hour, giving everyone an extra hour of sunlight in the evenings. However, on the first Sunday of November, things switch back to standard time, so you get an extra hour of sleep in the mornings.
